HISTORY

In 1952, Gaby Aghion founded Chloé because wanted to create a very feminine fashion line with fine materials, which was against the formal fashion of the day in Paris. The aim was that their romantic, cool, and glamorous designs would “personify the aspirations of young women.”

In fact, it was one of the first ready-to-wear fashion houses to exist – a novel concept at the time. Over time, Chloé expanded to include accessories, like jewellery, bags, and glasses. The latter has become wildly successful – a must-have accessory – with huge numbers of glasses and sunglasses being sold worldwide.

Chloé has, over the years, had many famous designers connected to the brand, including Stella McCartney and Karl Lagerfeld. During the 1970s, Karl Lagerfeld made sure to include many floral, floaty designs, which cemented Chloé’s decidedly feminine reputation. He then famously went on to captain Fendi and Chanel. In the late 90s, Stella McCartney become Chloé’s creative director, designing sexier, but still romantic, collections, attracting a whole new generation to the French fashion house
